About:
This is an interactive sculpture that invites the viewer to sit and be seen. The construction is crude with exposed studs and grout to emulate the shape and rustic feel of an outhouse. While sitting, the viewer is meant to feel vulnerable, being on display in a position we associate with privacy.
Each of the critters is chosen for their correlation to filth: the rat, the cockroach, the centipede, and the grub larvae. Even the tile pattern is one typically used in subway stations. However, by the precision and care of the craftsmanship and the harmony given by the monochromatic white, the outhouse becomes something welcoming and intriguing.
